Nine sex complaints against former priest

Upper Hutt police are now investigating nine sex abuse complaints against former Marist priest Alan Woodcock and expect to make a decision on his possible extradition today or tomorrow.

Woodcock, 54, is understood to be in England.

Upper Hutt CIB head Detective Sergeant Murray Porter said yesterday the bulk of the complaints related to a year Woodcock spent teaching at St Patrick's College, Silverstream, in 1982. The other complaints related to time he spent at Wellington's Futuna Retreat House. The alleged offences occurred between 1982 and 1987.

Police initially received three complaints regarding Woodcock in 1994 and 1995. Mr Porter said the other six complainants had come forward in the past 10 days after publicity surrounding Woodcock's alleged serial sex offending. Several people had also offered supporting evidence.

Mr Porter said he would forward his report to Wellington's district commander today or tomorrow.
