Man arrested over alleged sexual abuse


A 56-year-old man has been arrested over allegations of sexual abuse of a pupil at Marylands Catholic School, Christchurch, during the 1970s. He was to appear in court late yesterday.

The St John of God Order, which ran the residential school for boys with intellectual disabilities until 1984, has offered $4 million compensation to 56 alleged victims of abuse dating back to the 1950s.
