In a surprise move,
former Tauranga councillor and ex-detective Brad Shipton has pleaded guilty to
unlawful possession of a pistol. The Tauranga District
Court was told the Colt 45 was found in the rafters of the garage at his
Cambridge Road home in July last year, when police executed a search warrant
on an un-related matter. The gun was described as
disassembled and in a poor state, wrapped in newspaper, and in a plastic bag. There was no ammunition
with it. Judge Hobbs remanded
Shipton until Friday, to consider a written submission on sentencing from his
lawyer. |
