Fair trial questioned by lawyers

Lawyers for two of the three men charged over the Louise Nicholas allegations have questioned whether their clients can receive a fair trial.

Former police officers Robert Schollum and Bradley Shipton appeared in the Tauranga District Court yesterday.

At the same time suspended Assistant Commissioner Clint Rickards appeared in the Auckland District Court.

Details of the charges the men are facing are subject to several suppression orders.

Lawyers for Schollum and Shipton say they are concerned about whether the pair can receive a fair trial anywhere in New Zealand, given the publicity surrounding the case.

Both men will reappear in the Rotorua District Court at the end of the month.

Rickards will appear in the same court next month.
