The Crown is closing
its case against Assistant Police Commissioner Clint Rickards and two former
colleagues on historical rape charges. The jury is expected to
retire on Wednesday to consider whether Rickards, Bob Schollum and Brad
Shipton raped and sexually assaulted Louise Nicholas in Rotorua 20 years ago. Earlier today a witness
told the court Louise Nicholas had been friendly with Schollum at her
brother's wedding in February 1993. Kerri Anne Best was
matron of honour at the wedding, which took place a month after Mrs Nicholas
went to police complaining she had been raped by Schollum and two former
Police colleagues seven years earlier. Ms Best says that
Schollum shot the video at the wedding. She says, while photos were being
taken, she saw Mrs Nicholas, who was a bridesmaid, laughing with Schollum and
lifting her skirt to show the lace top of her stocking. Another witness,
Suzanne Canning, who was then a work mate of Mrs Nicholas, recalls visiting
her in 1987 to look at a horse. She says while she was
there a man she now knows to be Bob Schollum arrived for what appeared to be
a friendly visit. |
