Lawyers see judge in rape case

Lawyers on both sides in the historical rape trial at the High Court in Auckland have been called in to see the judge - with the news media excluded.

The jury of seven men and five women has now spent 17 hours considering whether Assistant Police Commissioner Clint Rickards and former colleagues Brad Shipton, and Bob Schollum raped and sexually assaulted Rotorua woman Louise Nicholas in the mid 1980s, with no sign of a verdict.

Prosecution and defence lawyers are currently in Chambers with Justice Tony Randerson.

The news media has been sent out of court.

Devoted friends and family of the three accused remain at court, but it is still anyone's guess when there will be a verdict.
