Second day of trial of former police officer accused of coverup

The woman at the centre of historical rape allegations against police officers will continue as a witness today in the trial of a former inspector accused of covering up her complaint.

John Dewar is charged with wilfully attempting to obstruct, pervert or defeat the course of justice by suppressing or failing to act on allegations of sexual offending.

The High Court trial opened yesterday in Hamilton with the Crown alleging he actively stonewalled on claims against Assistant Commissioner Clint Rickards and former officers Brad Shipton and Bob Schollum.

Mrs Nicholas said she told Mr Dewar the sex wasn't consensual but he failed to even note down her evidence.

The Crown alleges Mr Dewar was trying to protect the men.

The defence denies all allegations.
