Louise Nicholas sticks by claim she did tell accused about rape allegations

Rotorua woman Louise Nicholas has repeatedly told the High Court that she did disclose her historical allegations of rape by police officers to a senior officer.

The former head of the Rotorua CIB John Dewar is on trial accused of attempting to obstruct justice by covering up the allegations.

Under cross examination, Mrs Nicholas said she was unhappy with the contents of a written statement after she read it ten years later, which was signed by her but written by the accused.

She told the court the statement didn't have reference to her having told Mr Dewar about the rape allegations at their first meeting.

Mrs Nicholas's mother, Barbara Crawford gave evidence that she was at the meeting and her daughter did tell Mr Dewar.

The trial is now before 11 jurors after one of their number was discharged due to ill health.
