Notebook recording first meeting Louise Nicholas had with police goes missing

The High Court has heard that notes taken by a police officer who was told by Louise Nicholas she had been raped by police officers went missing soon afterwards.

The former head of the Rotorua CIB John Dewar is on trial for attempting to obstruct justice, after the Crown says he covered up the rape allegations.

Retired police officer Ray Sutton told the jury Louise Nicholas approached him with her story in 1993.

He says he took brief notes of her allegations about being raped at the age of 14 by a police officer in Murupara and then again by three officers in Rotorua when she was 18.

Mr Sutton says John Dewar later came to his office and told him he was taking over the investigation because it concerned serving officers.

He says this was the last time he recalls seeing his notebook.
