Nicholas vs John Dewar |

The jury hearing charges against a
former police Detective Inspector has been reduced to 11 members after one of
them was excused any further duty because of illness. The juror fell ill yesterday and
the case was adjourned until this morning. John Dewar, the former head of
Rotorua's CIB office, faces four counts of obstructing or defeating the
course of justice over his handling of rape complaints laid by Louise
Nicholas. Dewar's trial has heard evidence
of how he allegedly obstructed Mrs Nicholas in 1993 and 1994 in her efforts
to lay rape complaints against three men who were police officers at the
time. The officers, current Assistant
Commissioner Clint Rickard, and former officers Brad Shipton and Bob Schollum
were last year found not guilty of rape. |
