The trial of a former senior
police officer accused of attempting to cover up historical rape allegations against
other officers has been delayed due to the illness of the senior defence
lawyer. John Dewar, 55, is facing four
charges of attempting to defeat the course of justice after the Crown says he
covered up the allegations made by Louise Nicholas. Defence counsel, Paul Mabey QC
became ill on Thursday afternoon and the trial was adjourned early. When the court sat on Friday,
Justice Hansen told the jury that Mr Mabey was still unwell and that the case
could not proceed without him. The trial has been adjourned until
Monday. |
