The High Court has been told of a over-heard
conversation that appeared to implicate a former senior police officer
accused of covering up sex allegations against police officers. 55-year-old John Dewar is facing
four charges of attempting to obstruct the course of justice, after the Crown
says he covered up allegations of rape. The first two trials against a
former Murupara police officer charged with raping Louise Nicholas were
declared mistrials after Mr Dewar gave inadmissible evidence. Lynn Atkins told the court today
of overhearing Mr Dewar telling people during a court break that he said
something he shouldn't have said and that there wouldn't be a third trial. |
