Nicholas vs John Dewar |

The Crown has concluded its
evidence against former Rotorua CIB head John Dewar at the High Court in
Hamilton. Dewar faces four counts of
attempting to defeat or obstruct the course of justice over his investigation
of rape complaints made by Louise Nicholas. The crown closed its case by
calling Detective Senior Sergeant Steve McGregor to the stand. He headed the
Operation Austin inquiry into Louise Nicholas' allegations and as a result he
arrested Dewar. He testified he saw Dewar
repeatedly at trials of those charged with molesting Mrs Nicholas and there
appeared to be a close bond between Dewar and the accused men. Earlier Superintendent Mark Lammas
told the court the way the matter was handled was well outside the normal
procedure. He said the reporting of any allegation, no matter how vague,
should have been passed on to the district commander. |
