The prosecution will rest its case
against the former Rotorua detective charged with attempting to defeat or
obstruct the course of justice on Friday. It is alleged John Dewar failed to
properly investigate rape allegations against Clint Rickards, Brad Shipton
and Bob Schollum. He has denied having a close
friendship with the three men, but the court has heard testimony from a woman
claiming to have engaged in group sex with all of them. She told the court she came
forward after hearing Dewar deny on TV knowing the men other than in a
professional capacity. Four policemen involved with 2004
Operation Austin will today take the stand for the crown. The defence will open on Monday
and it is expected Dewar will be their only witness. |
