Senior officer tells of sex being offered as a gift A senior police officer has told
the High Court in Hamilton of sex being given as a gift to the man accused of
covering up rape allegations from the 1980s against three police officers. Former inspector John Dewar is
facing four charges of obstructing justice after the Crown says he covered up
allegations made by a Rotorua woman, Louise Nicholas. Mr Dewar maintains he knew the
three officers - Clint Rickards, Bob Schollum and Brad Shipton - only in a
professional and not social capacity. However, Inspector Alistair
Williams told the court that Mr Dewar told him of receiving what he called a
gift of a woman for sex. Mr Williams says he was pretty
sure Mr Dewar mentioned that the gift was arranged by either Brad Shipton or
Clint Rickards. Another police officer told the
court that from what he observed, the accused was a good friend of the three
men. The Crown ended its case on
Friday, and the trial has been adjourned till Monday when the defence will
open its case. |
