Crown alleges that Dewar was gifted sex by his colleagues

The Crown has wrapped up its case in the trial of former Detective Inspector John Dewar with allegations that sex was arranged as a gift by his colleagues.

The former Rotorua police boss is on trial at the Hamilton High Court charged with obstructing or defeating the course of justice between 1993 and 1995.

The charges relate to his investigation of historic sex allegations made by Louise Nicholas against Clint Rickards, Bob Schollum and Brad Shipton who were acquitted last year.

Inspector Alistair Williams said in court this morning he recalled Dewar telling him of a gift of group sex organised by either Shipton or Rickards.

Dewar previously said he had no close personal relationship with Shipton and only knew him from work.

The defence will open its case on Monday.
