The defence has started
summing up its case in the High Court trial of four men for allegedly
pack-raping a woman in Mt Maunganui 16 years ago. The men say the sex was
consensual. Defence counsel Paul
Mabey told the jury to think about how the woman gave an insight into her own
lack of self respect. He says she looks back
on what she allowed herself to do, which is now unacceptable to her in her own
psyche. He also asked the jury
to think about why she did not seek medical attention after the alleged
rapes. Mr Mabey claims she
sought no medical attention because there was no violent treatment. He says there appears
to be a lack of consistency in the woman's account. He says for a woman who
says she tried to forget her memories of the event, she seems to have a
strong recollection of the details, even though they were sixteen years ago. |
