One of four men accused
of raping a woman in Mt Maunganui 17 years ago has had his conviction
overturned in the court of appeal, and a retrial has been ordered. The man has been freed
from jail where he was serving a sentence for rape and abduction. The other three men
have had their conviction and sentence appeals dismissed. All men have name
suppression. A lawyer for the man,
whose name is also suppressed, says his client is pleased for himself, but
disappointed for the other three men. A date has not yet been
set for the retrial. |
