Verdicts Returned In Kidnap And Assault Trial

Assistant Police Commissioner, Clint Rickards, and his two co-accused have been acquitted at the High Court in Auckland over charges of kidnapping and assault on a teenager in the 1980’s.

Mr Rickards, and former officers Brad Shipton and Bob Schollum, were charged with kidnapping and indecently assaulting a woman in Rotorua more than two decades ago, when she was 16-years-old.

About forty supporters of the accused, including their children, wives and siblings, were at the High Court in Auckland to await the verdict.

Mr Shipton and Mr Schollum denied the allegations, while Clint Rickards said the allegations were not only false, but he also claimed he had never met the woman and if the incident happened, he was not there.

The jury retired at 1.30pm yesterday afternoon and retired for the night 8 hours later, and continued their deliberations at 9 am this morning.

The jury cleared all three accused of both charges
