Questions For Written Answer
ACC Sensitive Claims

1256 (2004). Dr Muriel Newman to the Minister for ACC (20 February 2004):
At 1 January 2004, how many staff have been employed in the sensitive claims area year by year since the unit was established?

Hon Ruth Dyson (Minister for ACC) replied:

The following table shows the number of actual staff members employed in the unit, as at the 1 January each year:

Year                 Actual Staff Numbers
01/01/1997                    36
01/01/1998                    32
01/01/1999                    38
01/01/2000                    38
01/01/2001                    29
01/01/2002                    31
01/01/2003                    37
01/01/2004                    38

ACC payroll records are only available as far back as 1997.

1257 (2004). Dr Muriel Newman to the Minister for ACC (20 February 2004):
What has been the staff turnover year by year since the sensitive claims unit was established?

Hon Ruth Dyson (Minister for ACC) replied:

The following table shows the annualised turnover rate for the Sensitive Claims Unit as at 31 December of each year, since the Unit was established.

Year                 Annualised Turnover Rae
31/12/1997                    12.96%
31/12/1998                    6.25%
31/12/1999                    17.42%
31/12/2000                    46.35%
31/12/2001                    14.82%
31/12/2002                    22.52%
31/12/2003                    8.34%

ACC payroll records are only available as far back as 1997.

The 46.35% turnover in the year ended 31 December 2000 is in part because of the effects of the privatisation of the ACC Scheme in 1999/2000, and the subsequent reintegration of the private competitive elements back with ACC in 2000. The consequential instability and restructuring required resulted in an increased turnover of staff.

Hon Ruth Dyson (Minister for ACC) replied:
