www.peterellis.org: - The NZ
Accident Compensation Scheme (ACC) offers compensation for the effects of
being a victim of sexual abuse. This site is concerned that the compensation
scheme provides little safeguards against fraudulent claims.
Fraudulent claims are a monetary problem for the ACC and the taxpayer, but
the fraud also has severe consequences for the innocent people accused.
Counsellors are only able to obtain money for counselling from the ACC if
their client has been sexually abused, and for no other reason. The huge
number of "sex abuse cases" being reported, not supported by any corroborating
evidence suggests that many, if not all "ACC counsellors" are simply
riding the gravy train.
This site says that ACC compensation for sex abuse must meet criteria
including
(1) Sex abuse claims must be supported
by a report to the police
(2) Compensation for sex abuse
counselling must be stopped, unless the ACC is willing to fund compensation
for all other sorts of mental trauma.
