The Government is
justifying ACC's refusal to grant compensation to the victim of a serial
rapist. ACC Minister Ruth Dyson
says the woman - who is the latest victim of Iraqi, Akeel Hassan Abbas Al
Baiiaty - has received funding for medical costs to cover doctors' visits and
counseling. She says the woman's
application for lump sum compensation was declined on the grounds that her
own doctor indicated her injury was not permanent. Ms Dyson says when the
woman's doctor certifies she may have an ongoing impairment, she will be able
to re-apply for a lump sum. She says it appears ACC
has handled the case carefully and appropriately. |
