Allegations of Sexual
Abuse in NZ |

The New Plymouth doctor accused of
sexually assaulting a dozen patients over more than 20 years has pleaded not
guilty to all 37 charges. The doctor, whose name is
suppressed, denied all the charges including indecently assaulting women
patients and a girl aged between 12 and 16. The police alleged the assaults
took place between 1981 and 2003. Justice Priestly warned potential
jurors they may not be able to serve if they know the doctor, any of his
dozen accusers or their support people, or other witnesses, including a
dental surgeon and nurses. He then told those selected for
the jury that many prominent New Plymouth people will take part in the trial.
