Top GP tells sex-assault trial patients can misinterpret internal examinations

A leading GP has told the High Court that women - especially young patients - can easily misinterpret internal examinations

Lawyers for the new Plymouth doctor charged with sexually assaulting a dozen patients have called Dr Harry Marshall, who is a GP of 40 years.

He is also an honorary associate professor at Auckland's medical school and a former Medical Association president.

Dr Marshall said the unpleasant physical manipulations of intimate examinations are easily misunderstood - despite a doctor's explanations.

The court had previously been told that the defendant's patients were needlessly told to strip naked, but Dr Marshall said women patients of his mistakenly remove too many clothes once or twice a year.
