The Medical Council has formally
advised a New Plymouth doctor found guilty of indecently assaulting patients,
not to continue practicing. Dr Hiran Fernando was found guilty
of committing indiscretions against females between 1981 and 2002. There are
concerns he is still able to practice, even after being found guilty on 26
charges. Medical Council chief Philip Pagou
says the Council is required to allow the doctor to respond with a
submission, before they can decide whether to suspend him.
