First offender remorseful
Fined for false claim
Court Reporter

A Mosgiel woman who gambled all her rent money so made up a story of being robbed and sexually violated, was convicted and fined $300, costs $130, when sentenced in the Dunedin District Court yesterday.

Allyn-Anne Hollamby (34), mother, had admitted falsely claiming to police an offence of aggravated robbery and rape had been committed, on October 14.

On finding she had gambled away all her rent money, Hollamby went to Dunedin Hospital in an hysterical state claiming she had been robbed of her wallet, containing $200, and sexually assaulted by two people in toilets at a George St shopping centre.

Police spent six hours investigating the claim before finding it was false.

Counsel Campbell Savage said Hollamby was a first offender, remorseful, and unlikely to be before the court again. Under stress at the time, Hollamby now had help for her problems.
