Team investigating rape

Fifteen police officers have been assigned to the inquiry into a pack rape of a girl in the Wellington suburb of Newtown.

The girl, 15, was followed and attacked by five men last Thursday afternoon on a construction site near McDonald's restaurant in Riddiford St.

It took the girl till the weekend to tell police about the rape.

Detective Inspector Gary Knowles, of Wellington, said the team was planning to speak to her again and see what other information she had. Police would also be in Newtown attempting to identify possible suspects from the girl's description.

The men have been described as Polynesian, aged between 25 and 35, of solid build. One wore a white T-shirt on his head, while another wore a red-checked shirt.

At least four of the men had tattoos.

The attack happened between 2pm and 5pm. Anyone with information should contact police.
