Police are still
appealing for sightings of a green, four-door car and its driver after the
attempted abduction of a 12-year-old girl in the Christchurch suburb of Aranui.
The car followed the
girl as she walked from Breezes Road near Aranui High School between 3.15pm
and 4.10pm on Friday. The driver approached
the girl in Shortland Street and attempted to drag her into the vehicle but
she struggled free and broke away from his car. Detective Sergeant Mike
Johnson said yesterday the public response to the attempted abduction had been
positive but more information was required. The vehicle is
described as a green four-door with a rust patch on the roof. The driver is described
as a male Caucasian aged about 40 to 50 years old with long grey hair to his
shoulders. At the time his hair was in a pony tail. He was wearing a green
singlet, blue pants and a black leather glove on his right hand. His two
front teeth were missing. "We are pleased
with the positive response from the public, but so far have not been able to
identify him," Johnson said. "We would like to
hear from anyone who was in the area of Breezes Road, Wainoni Road and
Shortland Street near the Avondale Primary School or Aranui High School last
Friday between 3pm and 4pm." Police did not believe
there was a link between the Aranui attempted abduction and that of a Sumner
girl who suffered a four-hour memory lapse last week and claimed she was
abducted. Police are still investigating her case. |
