Woman (28) arrested after making a false complaint
by Leighton Keith

A 28-year-old New Plymouth woman was arrested and charged with making a false complaint after she claimed she had been bashed unconscious by two women and had her car stolen.

Two police officers spent about 10 hours investigating the complaint before the woman was arrested and charged.

Police said they would always investigate complaints -- but had better things to do with their time than to investigate false complaints.

Senior Sergeant Allan Whaley, of New Plymouth, said two officers had been investigating an complaint of aggravated robbery after the 28-year-old woman claimed her car was taken about 11.20pm on Thursday.

"The owner of the vehicle had advised police that she was stopped by two young Maori women near Highlands Intermediate School on Coronation Ave," Mr Whaley said.

The complainant alleged she was knocked unconscious during the theft and had come to at the other end of Pukekura Park, Fillis St, hours later.

The missing car, a silver Honda Civic sedan, was found in a central city car park yesterday afternoon.

Mr Whaley said the woman would appear in the New Plymouth District Court on December 22.
