of Sexual Abuse in NZ |

Nelson police were on
Friday investigating sightings of two men riding a mountainbike in Tahunanui
before an alleged rape of a woman early Thursday morning. The 17-year-old woman
told police she was gagged and raped at Centennial Park by two men who she
had seen riding "double" on a mountainbike. The alleged attack was
believed to have happened some time between 1am and 4am when the woman, who
had been drinking, went to relieve herself in a bush. The mountainbike, which
was left behind, was forensically tested on Thursday. Detective Senior
Sergeant Wayne McCoy said police received several sightings of the
mountainbike being ridden by two people not far from where the alleged attack
happened. Detectives were
following that information up Friday and were to also speak to people in a
nearby motel who might be able to help in the investigation, Mr McCoy said. He said the woman, who
was still distressed, had a medical examination yesterday. The results of the
medical test and the forensic testing of the bike would be sent to
Environmental Science and Research. |
