Teenager faces rape trial

A New Plymouth teenager will go on trial for rape. The 16-year-old boy appeared in the New Plymouth Youth Court for a depositions hearing yesterday. The youth has denied the rape charge. However, his lawyer Julian Hannam conceded there was a prima facie case to answer. Judge Robert Murfitt committed the youth to appear for call-over in the High Court on May 2. The teenager was remanded on bail.
