Stabbing claim labelled false by Christchurch police

The Christchurch woman who claimed she was attacked and stabbed by a man in the Styx Mill Reserve last month will be charged with making a false complaint to the police.

The 47-year-old told police she had been jogging through the reserve in the middle of the afternoon when she was attacked and stabbed repeatedly in the abdomen.

The woman also claimed she suffered cuts to her arms and hands while she fought off her attacker.

A police man hunt was launched and a helicopter searched the area for the poorly described attacker.

Detective Sergeant Grant Wormald says he is satisfied there was not an attack on the woman.

He says he is pleased to reassure the public there is no crazed man on the loose and he is thankful for the help the public gave.
