Woman made false attack claim

A woman who claimed she was attacked and stabbed by a man in a Christchurch reserve last month will be charged with making a false complaint to police.

The 47-year-old woman claimed she had been jogging through the the Styx Mill Reserve in the middle of the afternoon when she was attacked and stabbed repeatedly in the abdomen.

She said she had suffered cuts to her arms and hands while she fought off her attacker.

A police manhunt was launched and a helicopter searched the area. Detective Sergeant Grant Wormald says he is satisfied there was no attack.

He is pleased to reassure the public there is no crazed man on the loose and wants to thank the public for the help they gave following the incident.
