Diversion offered in false complaint case

Police have offered diversion to a woman who falsely claimed she had been stabbed while jogging in a Christchurch park.

The 47-year-old woman told police last month she was in the Styx Mill Reserve in the middle of the afternoon when she was attacked by a man and stabbed repeatedly.

She was charged with making a false complaint yesterday.

Detective Sergeant Grant Wormald says more than 2000 police hours were put into trying to solve the case.

He hopes people will return to the reserve now that the truth has emerged.
