Man, 21, cleared of four sex charges
NZPA

A man was yesterday acquitted of four sex charges involving a mentally ill woman.

Daniel John Betti, aged 21 but 19 at the time of the alleged incident, was cleared in Wellington District Court on charges of abduction with intent to have sexual intercourse, sexual violation by rape and unlawful sexual connection and indecent assault.

He was found guilty of attempting to defeat the course of justice.

The court had earlier been told that after the alleged incident he had tried to give the woman $10,000 to withdraw the complaint.

Betti was remanded until July 11 for sentence on that charge.
