Conviction avoided

A woman charged with falsely claiming she had been attacked and stabbed in a Christchurch reserve has been discharged without conviction after completing the police diversion scheme. In Christchurch District Court on Tuesday, police withdrew the charge of making a false complaint. Judge Oke Blaikie then discharged the 47-year-old woman and granted her permanent name suppression. At an earlier hearing, Judge Blaikie accepted that the woman's health had deteriorated and a medical report indicated a debilitating illness and acute stress.
