Two Catholic brothers, facing
historical sexual abuse charges against boys at a Christchurch School can be
extradited to New Zealand. The Australian Federal Court has
overturned an earlier court ruling that argued Rodger Maloney and Raymond
Garchow would not get a fair trial in New Zealand. New Zealand authorities appealed
the ruling. A bench of five judges today ruled
despite the long period that has elapsed since the offences were allegedly
committed, it has not been established that it would be unjust to surrender
the men. Brother Maloney faces a total of 28 charges dating back to the
1970s, involving young boys who attended Christchurch's Maryland's School. |
