Extradition Appeal

The Federal Court in Sydney has overturned an earlier decision and ruled that two Catholic clergymen accused of sexually abusing boys at a Christchurch school can be extradited to New Zealand.

New Zealand authorities had appealed an earlier decision that it would be unjust and oppressive to extradite Brother Rodger Moloney, who is 71, and Father Raymond Garchow, 59.

The former Saint John of God order clergymen are alledged to have sexually abused pupils in the 1970s at the former Marylands school.

Both have been fighting extradition since their arrest in December 2003.
