Two Catholic clergymen wanted by
police to face a number of historical sex abuse allegations against children
have arrived in this country after being extradited from Australia. Seventy-one-year-old Rodger
Moloney and 59-year-old Raymond Garchow flew in to Christchurch from Sydney
at about midnight. The High Court in Sydney turned
down an application by the two clergymen on Monday to appeal their
extradition order. The men will appear in the
Christchurch District Court this morning under new representation where a
bail application will be made. The men are accused of various
sexual offences against boys between 1971 and 1980 at the former Maryland's
School for the intellectually disadvantaged. Male Survivors of Sexual Abuse
Trust manager Ken Clearwater says they have been working on getting the men
extradited since 2002 and are grateful they are here to now face the
allegations. |
