News that two Catholic clergymen
are on New Zealand soil to face allegations of historical sexual abuse has
thrilled the manager of the Male Survivors of Sexual Abuse Trust. Rodger Moloney and Raymond Garchow
flew into Christchurch on Wednesday night after being extradited from
Australia. They will appear in Christchurch District Court on Thursday. Their lawyer Greg Walsh says a
bail application will be made. "Their fight for justice has just begun,
and they maintain their innocence, and it's a matter for the New Zealand
courts now," he says. Clearwater is pleased the two men
are here to face charges of committing various sexual offences against young
boys between 1971 and 1980 at Christchurch's former Maryland's School for the
intellectually disadvantaged. On Monday the Sydney High Court
turned down an application by the men to appeal their extradition order. |
