Rape urban myth Drug-rapes
- Taranaki Hysteria December 2006 |

A Taranaki rape crisis centre is
warning local women to beware of a possible serial rapist who is spiking
their drinks. SAFER Centre says seven women
reported being drugged and raped in the region last weekend. But only one of the victims has
complained to police. "It's very difficult to
complain to the police when you actually can't remember what happened,"
says SAFER Centre co-ordinator Lorraine Jans. "For them it's been
incredibly difficult because they've woken up in places where they don't
remember being and have been aware of the fact that they've been raped." Two of the women are awaiting the
results of blood tests to see if drugs were used to stupefy them. A Stratford bar is now hammering
home the message for women to keep an extremely close eye on their drinks.
