Seven drug rapes in one week suspected in Taranaki

Sex abuse counsellors in Taranaki say seven women have been drugged and raped in the region over the past week.

The women - aged between 19 and 38 - have told the Taranaki Safer Centre that they woke up after a night out to discover evidence of often brutal sexual assaults.

The centre spokeswoman Lorraine Jans says it's clear from some of the womens' accounts, that drugs have been used.

Lorraine Jans says because the women remember so little detail, only one complaint has been laid with the police - but she's hoping more will now follow.
