Eight Taranaki women believed drugged, raped in past week

Rape Crisis in Taranaki says another woman has come forward to say she was drug-raped in the area in the past week.

Hawera Rape Crisis managing director Pam Bassett told Morning Report that brings the total number of women drugged and then raped in the region to eight. Two have lodged complaints with police.

She said the cases do not seem to be linked to the same perpetrator.

Ms Bassett says women in the region should be especially vigilant when drinking.

Detective Senior Sergeant Grant Coward of New Plymouth says the high number of cases is a matter for concern. Twelve women nationwide have made similar complaints.
