Police want to hear from complainants

The police in Taranaki say they want to hear from the eight women in the region who say they were drug raped within the last week.

Rape Crisis says another twelve women nationwide have also come forward saying they were drugged then raped during the same period.

Detective Senior Sergeant Grant Coward from the New Plymouth police says they have received only two complaints from eight cases.

He told Morning Report the police can investigate, even if the women don't remember anything from the assaults.

Grant Coward says it's difficult to investigate the high number of rape cases in Taranaki with only two people coming forward to police.
