Rape Crisis worried more victims of drug-rape

The Rape Crisis organisation says drug-rape in New Zealand could be more widespread than previously thought.

Two weeks ago nine women in Taranaki came forward to say they had been drug-raped.

Now Hawera Rape Crisis, which runs a nationwide call centre, has received calls from another 23 victims who have rung in because of the publicity.

The Rape Crisis national spokesperson, Andrea Black, says the calls may be just the tip of the iceberg.

She's urging people to come forward and seek professional help if they think they've been raped, especially if they have any injuries or memory blanks.
