Photographer tackled outside court

Two women supporters of a schoolteacher on sex charges grabbed a photographer as he pursued the accused outside Levin District Court yesterday.

Michael Neville, 47, left the court through a back door and ran down the street after seeing the waiting photographer and TV crews.

As they pursued him, the two women grabbed the photographer and a man then tackled him to the ground, allowing Neville to flee. Police did not intervene.

Neville, of Levin, faces four charges of indecently assaulting girls under 12 at the school where he worked. The case was adjourned for a depositions hearing in Palmerston North on December 18 and 19.
