Indecent charges against teacher

Crown opens its case against Horowhenua teacher charged with indecently assaulting four former pupils

The Crown has opened its case against a Horowhenua teacher charged with indecently assaulting four former pupils.

Michael Neville is accused of touching inappropriately, girls aged between seven and 10 at the time, between 1999 and 2003.

Prosecutor Katrina Barber told the jury that they will hear evidence that the defendant was well liked within the school community. In 2000 Mr Neville was acting assistant principal.

Ms Barber said that a number of similarities would surface between each count. She told the court the offences occurred in the classroom and on the playground.

The accused had a number of supporters in the gallery, including parents of children at the school.
