Spotlight on credibility

The credibility of two complainants in the sex abuse case against a Horowhenua teacher have come under the spotlight.

Michael Neville is on trial on charges of indecent assault against four pupils between 1999 and 2003.

The claims have consisted of Neville allegedly touching girls on their buttocks, their chest, and inside their pants.

In the Palmerston North District Court this afternoon the deputy principal at the school started giving evidence.

She told the court that two of the complainants had reputations among staff for being liars and could not be relied on to tell the truth.

She also described Neville as a mild-mannered teacher who brought the best out of his students.

The trial is continuing into next week.
