	NZEI December 2, 2004 NZEI Welcomes Teachers Acquittal Press Release: NZEI NZEI Welcomes Acquittal of Levin Primary School Teacher NZEI Te Riu Roa has welcomed the acquittal of Levin school teacher, Mike Neville, who is a member of the union. "NZEI Te Riu Roa has supported Mike throughout this case,” says NZEI Te Riu Roa National Secretary, Lynne Bruce. “From the information we had the union formed the view that he was innocent of the charges against him,” says Ms Bruce. “The union is therefore relieved and gratified with the jury’s verdict.” “This case shows the potential vulnerability of teachers in the education system.” “It highlights an occupational hazard, faced in particular by male teachers.” “NZEI Te Riu Roa will be reviewing the case and considering the implications for the union’s members,” says Lynne Bruce
