Abuse case prompts review of advice

A Horowhenua school teacher has been reinstated in his job following his clearance on sexual abuse charges.

A jury found Michael Neville not guilty of indecently assaulting four pupils early in December.

The primary teachers union is pleased Mr Neville will be returning to the school where he has taught since 1995.

NZEI national president Colin Tarr says the school's community is fortunate to have such a dedicated and hard-working teacher.

He says the union hopes Michael Neville's return to the classroom is smooth and he can put the events of the last 19 months behind him.

Mr Tarr says the case has raised a number of issues for the teaching profession, and as a result, the NZEI will be looking at the advice it gives its members.
